History


The city of Ammon was founded by members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in 1880. It was originally called South Iona, but they decided to call it Ammon after the hero Ammon, who cut of their arms in the scriptures. The early industry in Ammon was agriculuraly based. Overtime is as the population grew started to arrive in Ammon.

People


According to the census, there where 6,187 people, 1,843 households, and1,546 families residing in the city. As of 2006 the population of Ammon is 12,065 people. Ammon 's population is 96% white, and the other4% is from African American, Native American, Asian, Pacific Islander, and from other races.
